Identifying as aspec is so liberating!! I only came out as demi about a month ago but I feel like it's given me the freedom to really admit what I want from life and relationships. I can be okay with the fact that I don't want sex and that I'm not really interested in dating at the moment, and I don't feel like I need to expose myself to things that I'm not interested in or pretend like I'm interested in them. Like, a lot of this could be applicable to anyone, but having the label made me reflect on my wants and needs rather on the things that I should want or need. It feels like a puzzle piece has slotted into place and I can just be rather than feeling anxious that I wasn't the way I'm supposed to be.

HELP!

lingoon

I’m in need of money for some food since I’ll only eat certain kinds than have anything available in the house, getting tired of thriving on cereal, sandwiches, and (sometimes) pizza n’ chips, and also want to feed my nephew who’s also especially picky as I am.

Like not to be That Guy who asks for things, especially if it’s something fixable, but I’d rather feel satisfied than go hungry to the point of irritation, anxiety, and getting sick.

I’m unemployed and probably plan living on disability in the future for personal reasons, despite being pressured to apply for a job. My dad’s using most of his money on a house for us he’s paying for to be built back in most of the family’s home country and grandpa. And even if he had the money, I don’t really wanna ask him for some because… terrible things have come to light, let’s just say (plus he gets tired from 12 hours on his job so he needs a lot of rest). Mom can’t work anymore due to her ataxia. My brother… Well, some of y’all know how siblings can be and I don’t wanna pester him to take me places and lend me money. He kinda scares me a little, too.

Not only that, but I also want to have some money for helping me move out of this hell hole, and to cover a few payments that I owe as well.

Sorry for not having a fancy commission sheet on me at the moment, nor having examples for certain types of commissions in the link below. Been having a slow art day as of lately. I’ll probably have one later. In the meantime, here are a few examples of what my art looks like (captions below!):

]]]]

(Sketchy chibi fanart of RevScarecrow playing My Summer Car. Mind the name in signature, that was my old Twitch username--)

]]]]

(Bust commission for one of my good friends, cryptid-anonymous on Tumblr, of his OC, Danny!)

]]]]

(Fullbody lineless art of my shapeshifter OC possibly for D&D, Maddox!)

]]]]

(Headshot painting of Julian from The Arcana for a trade with @99cmilk on Twitter!)

And here are the prices and examples for what I can draw for all y’alls. Also linked there is what I will and won’t draw tho I’ll toss a link to that in this post, too, just in case.

You can also donate/commission me on Ko-fi as well! I don’t have a sheet (along with prices) set up there either (again, sorry), so you can give or pay what you want.

Reblogging this also helps! Message me for email (and PayPal as well), otherwise the address should on my Ko-fi page. Thank you guys either way!! <3

pros of having a small community on waterfall:

lots of interaction with posts and asks, minimal discourse, learning stuff bc ppl post about their niche interests

cons:

this post has 5 notes but ive somehow seen it 23 times already

I am loving these suggestions so far, omf! Backstory, we've had calico cats before and male calicos are pretty rare, and when we adopted Olive along with her brother Leo from our neighbor we thought she was a male! So her original name was Oliver (I still call her this from time to time) and once we found out she was a girl my mom and sis just dropped the r and called it good

Oh, commision time?

Hello there. Why am I opening commisions? Two reasons: 1) not enough money. Like all the time. We do have enough to pay bills and buy food, but that's all. 2) dying laptop. It's old as hell, it lags a lot, half of its keyboard keys just don't work. I'm sure I'll need a new pc soon.

So yeah. Commision me. Reblogs aren't necessary, but very appreciated.

I was going through my saved book quotes and I really need y'all to read the Whyborne and Griffin series by Jordan L. Hawk, as it contains gems like this:

“I can’t believe you brought this...thing...into our home,” I said the next day. I gestured vaguely at the contraption now mounted on the wall of Griffin’s study. “What on earth were you thinking?”

“We discussed all the reasons for us to have a telephone,” Griffin reminded me, “and decided it was the most prudent course.”

“Well, yes, but I didn’t think you meant now.” I’d imagined he meant to have it installed sometime in the future. The very distant future. But of course Griffin was the sort of man to act, not dither about like me.

“It will be a boon to my business,” he said. “Not to mention, being able to quickly contact your father or the museum could make all the difference should there be an emergency. I’m sure the telephone will prove its usefulness in many ways.”

I snorted rudely. “I have my doubts. I’ve accepted all of the modern technology you’ve brought into our lives—electricity, the motor car, the replacement motor car—and not once have I uttered a single word of complaint.”

Griffin made a choking sound. I ignored him. “But surely a line must be drawn somewhere,” I continued doggedly. “Being forced to talk to people—and in my own home! Surely a telegraph would be more than sufficient.”

“Come now, my dear.” Griffin pitched his voice soothingly, the same way he did when coaxing Saul down from a tree. “I’m sure once you understand its operation, you’ll feel much more at ease. Let me demonstrate it to you.”

It's a historical, paranormal series with the main characters being in a M/M relationship and it's so fucking good.

Aromantic and asexual people who never want to have "intimate" relationships deserve the best. I feel like the discussion is often centered around how aro/ace/aroace people can still have relationships, they can still engage in these activities regardless of their attraction. And that's great for the people that it applies to, but to those of us who dread relationships that aren't friendly or familial, there should be more discussion than "but we can still do that!" There is life outside of romance and sex, and even QPRs. You deserve to pursue that life if you so wish.

telling a story in d&d

dnd

theres some jokey post on tumblr about writing a book/novel but not wanting to have to do all the work of coming up with character actions and stuff and the punchline is to not write the book/novel but instead become a dm and while on the one hand that is sort of true, the way that you tell a story in a tabletop game versus how you tell a story in a book is very different, as all different storytelling mediums are.

In a TTRPG, the GM does not control everything. They don't control most of the story, really. All that is down to the players. Assuming a GM doesn't force or railroad the players into the story, and that they don't have any contingencies, the players could just start walking a direction away from the story and never come back, whether on purpose or on accident. Unlike in a book, where the author is in charge of all the characters (setting aside the bit that writers have about characters having a mind of their own), there can always be some kind of motivator to convince the reader that the characters really do want to do what they are doing. In a TTRPG, the players can be given every motivator-- revenge, glory, riches, finding loved ones, destiny, morals, whatever-- but the players can still say "nah, I like this shiny thing over here much better." Because of the independence of the players, the "main characters" in a novel, the GM cannot truly say what is gonna happen next or anything about their own control over the story.

That is, however, why GMs have contingencies. They can come in several different forms.

If the original idea is:

If X happens, then Y will happen, but if Z happens, then Y cannot happen but the story will continue as planned.

then the premise is on unbelieveably shaky ground. Players don't do what they are told, and you cannot assume that they will do what you are leading them to do just because they are good players. So you can do something like this:

If X happens, then Y will happen, but if Z happens, then I will have Y happen but with W consequences.

This works well for things that Must Happen Or Else The Story Will Not Work At All, but sometimes the Event is not important enough to matter like that or has such extreme ethical or moral consequences that it Y cannot happen at all, in which case:

If Z happens, then I will split the timelines and Y can no longer happen whatsoever and instead T will happen.

In this instance, planning for both Y and T can be tiring, especially if the thing happens early in a session. And so we get to what GMs can do instead of planning out a timeline, which is Narrative Beats.

(Note: ive heard this used by griffin mcelroy, but i havent really listened to other gms talking about their planning before so i cannot say what it is that they do instead)

Narrative Beats is just a list of stuff that Has To Happen. Stuff like "meet this character, establish this in-world event has happened or this piece of worldbuilding extra good, do some foreshadowing, introduce this concept, start building this theme" whatever. It's stuff like Literary Analysis bs that the players can have a field day with later, worldbuilding stuff that you need to make sure they absolutely understand (so that they know the Consequences), and normal Narrative Beats (major events that need to happen and that the players can react to). (i lumped in stuff that doesnt actually qualify as a narrative beat in with that stuff bc it just makes sense as stuff you need to do sometimes idk). And as the session progresses, you can make sure that this happens. So the players can do whatever they want to do based on what you've given them up to this point, but you can drop these beats when they fit best rather than awkwardly shoehorning them in awkwardly. With this stuff there is absolutely worrying about timelines (some stuff has to happen first or is dependent on other stuff) but it has more freedom?? idk ive done both ways and i defo like the beats one better in practice but planning timelines can be fun sometimes

Either way, there's a level of detail that you have to have in the world. You have to know everything about the major NPCs. You have to know enough about the world that you can invent stuff when the players go to a part of town you haven't technically fleshed out yet. You need to be able to come up with a new NPC for them to talk to, someone who can give them the relevant information for a beat even though you thought they'd get it from someone else. This is vital improv that you have to be able to have if you're gonna GM at all ever. You gotta know the world inside and out. Players go into a library on the day of a festival? What's the library doing? Is it operating like normal, or doing festival-adjacent activities? You gotta know all that, which that level of detail for the whole world is insane and you can't possibly know that OR you know how to bs that and make it up for anywhere and have it feel real and plausible. And you have to do that for Beats and Timelines methods; for the Beats, everything is purposefully moveable and fluid, but for Timelines sometimes you gotta put the cult in a new location because the players missed it on accident and solved a riddle wrong but you gotta keep em moving for whatever reason or they thought they already explored a room so you need to have someone give them the key or they think the king is suspicious and kill him so you have to have the princess be the key to the prophecy. Sometimes it's deliberate mayhem that makes a campaign go wonky, and sometimes players unwittingly missing clues is what makes it go wonky and you gotta help em.

(sorta related note and a thing for another time is that sometimes the players missed something you set up for them not because they messed up but bc you were bad at setting it up for them)

anyways i lost my train of thought so im ending this hellpost where it stands and maybe ill get back to it later idk

thank u for ur time sorry this is long
